Next Generation reports that Gamestop has decided to be more active in the casual game business after larger sales in casual games for the Nintendo DS and Wii. Gamestop hopes that the increase in casual games may add to their already loyal hardcore gamer customer base.
"We note that merchandising to a broader consumer audience will remain a strategic priority for GameStop into 2008," said Lazard Capital Markets analyst Colin Sebastian after a January meeting with GameStop top executives.
Gamestop selling casual games could spark the already interested hardcore gamer into buying more casual games. Especially after games like Puzzle Quest, Peggle and Desktop Tower Defense have become favorites within the hardcore crowd.
