Cartoon Networks Casual MMO: FusionFall

Hollywood Reporter caught up with Cartoon Network to discuss their casual MMO, FusionFall. Their article discusses the difficulties Cartoon Network has had in creating the game and the difficulties of entering the market.

FusionFall, developed by Korean-based Grigon Entertainment, will be fighting an already crowded group of Casual MMO's such as Runescape, Pirates of the Caribbean, Habbo Hotel, Club Penguin and Gaia Online's new casual MMO. Cartoon Network defends their game by saying the game will be different by being easier to get into without the time commitment that others may have.

FusionFall, will target 8 – 14 year olds, and will grow the current audience from their customary 6 - 11 demographic. To achieve this growth 52 characters from 11 of the network’s shows will be incorporated into the MMO. One of the examples given was Dexter from the show “Dexter's Laboratory”.  Dexter will be in high school and redone in an anime style.

The question has yet to be answered on how the company will monetize the game.  Paul Condolara, senior vice president and general manager for Cartoon Network New Media stated that they are still evaluating business models centered on subscriptions, advertisements, micro-transactions, or a combination of the three.

Check out the article for a more in-depth look at the game.
