PlayJam creates World First Multimedia Games Network
with Web launch

The world’s largest interactive games channel PlayJam adds a rich, online proposition to its extensive TV network headed up by interactive veteran Jeff Zie.

PlayJam originally launched during the dawn of digital TV almost a decade ago and is now available in over 55 million TV homes across the world via Sky (UK) and Dish TV (USA) amongst other digital satellite broadcasters. Its new website unites PlayJammers globally, increases network accessibility and provides an enhanced user experience with social networking capabilities. The multimedia network will also empower its users to broadcast personal videos on TV and the web for the first time.

PlayJam has gained over 8 billion plays during the last five years and was recently re-acquired by founder Jasper Smith to establish the holy grail of casual gaming. Smith is rejoined by PlayJam’s original Channel Head Jeff Zie, now responsible for its online functionality. Having launched major web and TV-based interactive propositions for Microsoft, BSkyB, Emap and Liberty Media, Zie also oversaw the introduction of Electronic Arts’ online casual games business Pogo across Europe.

The PlayJam website will be heavily promoted directly via each broadcaster to encourage the development of a worldwide PlayJam community. In addition to playing games, PlayJammers can build their personal profiles online with videos and photos, write their own blog and interact with friends. With a single PlayJam account, users are rewarded for their gameplay across both TV and web platforms via an integrated points system, redeemable against aspiring mainstream consumer products. PlayJam’s TV interface will be upgraded to incorporate video streaming in a phased broadcaster launch, commencing with Sky and Dish TV.

Comments PlayJam’s Head of Online Jeff Zie “Adding social networking and user generated content to a widely established and successful games network alongside a cross-platform reward scheme will significantly fuel further PlayJamming. With a mobile launch also imminent, it’s a really exciting time to return to PlayJam and enhance its offering utilising the best of today’s media technologies.”

PlayJam will be attending Casual Connect, Seattle, 23-25 July 2008.
